Hyemin Son (South Korea)

Artist Hyemin Son is mainly working with photographs, videos, and installations. Son’s work explores especially interrelationship between everyday life, action and the imaginary predominantly located in the realm of cityscape. In a playful manner, Son constructs a form of gatherings, performances and happenings within a specific urban situation. Often the events create tensions and ruptures between an artists’ intention and the situation.

She completed a BA in Fine Art from Kyungwon University in 2001 and received her MFA in Art Practice at Goldsmiths College in 2008. Her recent show and project include Minor Adjustments (Incheon Art Platform, 2012, KR), The Bar (Behive, 2011, KR) Dual Mirage (Rivington Place, 2010, GB). She participated in the residency programmes including at the Goyang National Art Studio in 2010 and Incheon Art Platform in 2011. Son is based in Seoul and is currently organising a project The Growing Manual supported by Art Council Korea in 2012.
