HOM RESIDENCY

HOM Art Trans is currently running Three (3) art residencies

  1. A-RES – Local residency for the local Malaysian artist
  2. SAGER – A regional exchange residency program
  3. INTERES – An international residency program for international visual artist, curator & writer
A-RES

A-RES or Adopted Residency is a 6 months local residency program for young and emerging Malaysian visual artist. There are 2 sessions in (1) year. Each session host only 2 artists at a time.

From 2008 to 2018, 16 artists have finished the A-RES program.

Objective 
  • The residency is aimed to manage, develop and promote the artist-in-residence to prepare them for the local and international art scene. 
  • It will also aim to scout for potential talent for them to become HOM’s exclusive artist. 
  • To achieve these objectives, A-RES provides: A studio for artist-in-residence to actively produce artworks based on their own ideas. A network of international and local established artist, as well as other parties in the art scene. 
SAGER 

SAGER or  Southeast Asia Art Group Exchange Residency is a regional exchange residency programme co-organized by TENGGARA Artland (Indonesia) and Projectspace Pilipinas (Philippines). The residency entails 30-days each in Kuala Lumpur, Jogjakarta and Manila. During this time, artists-in-residences not only produce artworks for exhibitions in each city, but also partake in studio visits, gallery and art institution visits, as well as introductions to significant art collectors and art communities.

From 2011 to 2013, 20 artists from Kuala Lumpur, Yogyakarta & Manila has completed the series of the residency program.

Objective:
  • To give artists with at least five years of experience from Malaysian, Indonesian, and Filipino the opportunity to foster and strengthen regional ties, as well as to network and establish a better understanding of their neighbours.
  • Aside from these physical dialogues, SAGE also fosters a visual dialogue, as artists from these three countries are encouraged to engage in cross-cultural meditations and to broach new visual languages in their works.
INTERES 

INTERES or International Residency is an art residency that is open to international visual artists, curators and art writers. The residency period is between 25 to 30 days and it runs throughout the year.

There are 10 residency periods in (1) year. Each residency period will host (2) artist/writers/curators.

The participants will engage themselves in building networks to instigate potential collaborations with the local art community.

2011 to 2018, 19 artist from Brazil, Latvia, Korea, Manila, USA & India have participated in the program

In order to keep INTERES as a free art residency for the international artist, HOM ART TRANS provides:

  • Lodging with an air-conditioned room with a double-decker bed.
  • A studio to be shared with local residency artist.

HOM Art Trans
HOM Art Trans is an independent art space that seeks to assist and support the development of visual art in Malaysia and facilitates networking with the Southeast Asian counterparts.

HOM’s core objective is to promote Malaysia Art and nurture young artists through its key programmes, namely: The Residency, The Art Fund, and The Art Award.

Founded in 2007, the artist-run-space currently comprises of a gallery, a studio and an art archive.
